This term Year 2 will be exploring the scrumdiddlyumptious world of the chocolate factory. Roald Dahls’ classic has captured the imagination of children for generations and in Year 2 we can use it as a basis for working on skills in narrative, poetry, instructions, report writing and explanation texts. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is an exciting topic which can really capture the social justice and excitement of society around us and the adventure of inspiring characters.
Over the next few weeks, we will be reading Roald Dahl’s text, practising our sentence composition and sequencing events, as well as focusing on our high level descriptive language and exciting varied vocabulary. In narrative, non-fiction and poetic writing.
Through a series of exciting and thought-provoking lessons, Year 2 will explore the importance of chocolate to British history and the West Midlands region, and will be using the laptops and ipad technology to perform in role and research further. Plants and Life Cycles in science will enable the pupils to explore life, describe and experiment with different wildlife around us.
In maths, we will be continuing our learning on using models and images to represent different calculations. We will be making links between addition and subtraction, and also multiplication and division and how to use inverse operations to check calculations. The children will learn the commutative law of addition and multiplication and will aim to learn our 2x 5x and 10x tables off by heart. Children should make regular use of Mathletics online and focus on times tables learning as much as possible at home.
In French, the children will be learning new vocabulary such as the days of the week and the months of the year, and also discussing animals and pets. PE this term will focus on Athletics and Ball skills.
